Finally…!!! mt. expedition ends… such a great relieve to be home again… I’m seriously homesick…T.T..i missed my comfy bed~~!! Besides having lactic acids all over my muscles.. Yup.. I’ve definitely enjoyed conquering Mt. Kinabalu to the max! ! <3
Day one, we started our journey from Timpohon Gate at 9am.. We both got this wood stick for 3 bucks each.. it’s proven to be handy at times..the 1st KM was easy.. 2bro n me totally underestimated this mountain..
The totally distance we have to climb was 6km to reach Laban Rata (rest house) After the 1st few km… the tortures begin.. every step was excruciating.. nevertheless, it was misty n COLD!.. everybody knows that sweat + cold wind = not good.. to make things even worse i was having stomach aches, probably latitude sickness.. By the time we reach the 4km mark.. i was fatigue, sweaty, cold, hungry.. that moment was miserable.. Thank goodness Fred (2bro) was being positive and giving me motivation to move on.. though it didn’t help much, at least he helped me to carry my water.. we didn’t hire any porter.. so, carrying our own stuff was a pain.. u feel like throwing your backpack any time!!
Our Mt. guide, Jikon, was nice.. he helped me to carry my backpack!!! how kind of him..just to save his own ass from the rain At then, we reach Laban Rata at 2.30p.m.. it took us 5 1/2 hours.. All i needed was a hot bath….ahh~~ it tasted like heaven.. Our room had no ventilation.. just 2 beds n a light.. but it kept us warm though..luckily we made it early, cause it rained heavily later that day.. after a great bath we slept, had dinner and slept off again.. trust me.. it was impossible to sleep with all the noises from the other groups.. but, thats how we survived the 1st day..
Day two- woke up at 12am.. prepare everything and what so ever.. had coffee and chocolate for b’fast.. which is pathetic.. departed at 2.25 a.m.. Jikon was waiting for us already.. and i said the magic word please….. so he helped me to carry my raincoat.. haha.. magic always works.. then, the adventure begins.. it was quite a clear sky.. the stars were absolutely gorgeous..not excluding the city lights.. especially viewing it 3000 meters above sea level…. But, every step ahead i was at the verge of breaking down.. the wind was so strong that it pushed me… (HELL YA IT WAS STRONG!!) the cold breeze froze my face, hands, toes.. the pain was unbearable.. to think that the fact we’re almost there… the peak.. it kept us moving forward.. the height wasn’t a phobia to me.. nor the does the steepness of the mountain… the journey was tough… yet……
WE MADE IT!!!!!!!!
we reached the peak at 5.30a.m.. 3 hours of trekking, 20 minutes before sunrise.. n extremely lucky that it didn’t rain.. a great feeling of euphoria was felt when i accomplish my mission!! Jikon was like: “tahniah kamu berdua.. akhirnya sampai juga..” the moment we touched Lows Peak’s signboard ..he shook our hands n took our picture as a remembrance.. really need to thanked him for the times he used reverse psychology on me when i was going to give up.. due to my frozen hand.. not many pictures were taken..stupid wet gloves.. we didn’t even hang around long.. just after dawn we rush down like speedy Gonzales.. btw, the sunrise was breathtaking..
It was my 1st time viewing a sunrise.. to make it even special.. i viewed it 4092 m above sea level!!! i feel damn good about it!! Soon, it was time to leave the peak..i said goodbye to the peak.. the scenery will forever me in my mind.. unforgettable..
Regarding the time taken for us to reach down.. u just need to divide by two for the time taken for us to go up.. easy huh? It was definitely a once in a life time experience.. i would like to make it my 1st n last experience for this mountain.. but i recommend if u guys wanna have a try… just go ahead.. it worth every dime..
After this expedition, i felt like a somebody from a nobody.. it totally changed my perspective on certain things in life.. i have a better self esteem, confidence, perseverance…. hey, i conquered Kinabalu remember?
P.S: I’m just glad I’m home now.. even though i’m the maid for the next 4 weeks..
Coming up Next – Whole year evaluation
